3. Gambling and its Toll on the Village
GOD:
Again, where is the church when it comes to gambling, which robs the
poor villagers from what little they have and which used to be illegal
in America just a few decades ago and condemned by the church? Now,
almost every state in their union is in the gambling business and thrives
as the house. As a result, the village more and more becomes dependent
on the revenue generated by gambling where hardworking villagers lose
what they work all day for and most of the time to the detriment of
their families for that false promise of riches.
It is sinister to fool the villagers making them believe their wagering
is serving a good cause – the village’s failed education system. When the simple $1 lottery they first started has now become a
gallery of scratch-offs and instant winners with $10 or $20 tabs. That
is immoral, as it plays on the human's weakness, their hopes and dreams,
especially the poor, and less educated with little or no means of
achieving the American Dream.
All forms of gambling, whether legal or illegal, poison the village and
are menacing to the villagers’ way of life. It encourages criminal
activities, public corruptions, and undermines the villagers’ faith in
their elected officials.
JESUS:
How did they arrive at this unbelievable and heartbreaking point in such
a short time, Holy Father?
