The
midwife cleaned and wrapped the boy in a blanket and put him in the
mother's arms. She told the mother that the boy was healthy and strong.
And she felt he was going to be handsome and special when he has grown
up. Perhaps she told every birth mother the same uplifting words. But
she had no idea that the boy she had just delivered was to be a chosen
one. He would become the "Rock," a chosen Levi to deliver
God's wisdom and revelation for all.
The
midwife finished her work and said goodbye and went to her room very
proud of her well-delivered job. The baby cried until he was able to
feed on his mother's milk. The room went quiet as the mother, the baby,
the father, and the old and fragile great grandmother all fell back to
sleep.
The
mother told Rock that later that night he was born, she was awakened
suddenly by the creaking noise of the room's opening door. And when she
opened her eyes, she saw a man covered in black standing there with a
light in his hand. He shined the light three times in the mother's face
before fading away in the darkness the same way he had appeared and as
the door shut right behind him. The room went dark again. Shaken, she
nudged the husband and asked him if he saw what she had seen. He told
her that he heard or saw nothing of the kind. She fell back to sleep,
pulling the boy closer to her body to keep him warm under the thick
blanket as the cold air sipped in through the broken window pane and not
so tightly shot door.
She
told him he was born with golden locks, hazel eyes, and white skin. He
was a handsome baby and always taken from the arms of his mother by
others to hold and to be cherished.
The
mother told him that the next day, their life changed for the better as
the father regain his job and was given a small raise by his boss in the
celebration of his newborn son. A cousin came bearing gifts of a big
clay jar of fresh cheese and a big clay jar of honey from the father's
hometown, many hundreds of miles away. A surprise of a kind as the
cousin had not yet heard the good news. Mother told him that it was a
sign from God assuring them of the boy's
good fortune and God's many blessings He
will bestow upon them all through their lives.
The
mother told him their life continued to improve, and happiness returned
to, and sadness was lifted from their lives, especially after the loss
of their firstborn daughter she had loved so much. He was blessed with
four more siblings of two beautiful and elegant sisters and two handsome
and inelegant brothers.
The
boy grew up happy and joyful alongside his siblings. He was loved by all
– young and old, by his teachers, neighbors, family, and all who he came
across. He was kind, caring, smart, and full of
God's given talents. He started drawing and painting at an early
age while tinkered with everything mechanical or intriguing he could
fix. He studied hard, was very ambitious, and a star in his school. He
grew up handsome; his eyes set deep were piercing and captivating to
all. He grew up blessed and was thankful for it all. As a teenager, he
was trusted by all. He cared for and loved all. He never looked down on
anyone; instead, he uplifted those who he came across. The poor were his
friends as the rich were delighted to be to his side.
