He thanked
God,
and right there, he knew everything was in God’s hands. He then called
his first appointment and told the man the story and asked if he could
come at 9:30. The man said to him that wasn’t a good sign as lateness
was not acceptable, and he didn’t believe his story. Apprehensive, he
hopelessly called his second interview expecting the worse. But to his
relief, he was believed and was told he could come an hour later.
Somewhat relieved and encouraged, he called his third appointments and
nervously retold his story and asked if he could come a bit later. The
man on the phone said no. His stomach dropped before the man continued
by saying that he takes an early lunch and rescheduled him for two
O’clock later that afternoon, a piece of very welcome news. He thanked
God
profusely for His much-needed blessings he had received.
Now he had only one interview in the morning to worry about. He rushed
back to his car on the side of the road and waited for the tow truck to
arrive. Happily, the tow truck came shortly after. He rode with the tow
truck to the repair shop, likely within walking distance from his first
interview. At the dealership, he tried very hard to barrow a car since
it was their fault for not repairing his car right in the first time.
But they wouldn’t budge, and he couldn’t afford to rent a car.
He walked briskly to the interview carrying his oversize portfolio.
There he was told by a young lady to have a seat and offered him a cup
of coffee as he waited anxiously. That helped calm his anxious nerves.
The interview went well. The boss told him he liked what he saw and
offered him to work without pay as their delivery boy, delivering their
goods and work as an artist when possible for a month to see how well he
would perform. He was very excited; his simple idea had worked as he now
had a potential job in the field of art! He was on cloud nine as it was
known one to be when the good news was that good. The company was a
fabric design studio, and he was very interested to learn all about it.
Now that the interview was over, he had ample time, but nervous as he
still had to secure a car for his afternoon interview. The only choice
he had was to find his girlfriend to borrow her car for that interview.
He knew of his girlfriend’s schoolmate and a close friend who worked
nearby. On a hunch, as he had overheard them talking about her
workplace, he was able to find it and went to the office and asked for
her. To his surprise and her amazement when she came to the front, he
was in the right place. He told her the story and asked if she knew
where his girlfriend worked. She told him that they are scheduled to
meet for lunch, and it would be a pleasant surprise for her to see him
there. Since it was still too early for lunch, she told him where to
meet at noon. He left to stroll the streets of the small historic Old
Town Alexandria that was being revitalized.
At noon he surprised her by tapping her on the shoulder. She was excited
to see him and with his potential job offer. She was also saddened with
his misfortune of car trouble on such an important day. After lunch, she
walked him to her car, and after they said their goodbyes, he drove to
his afternoon interview. It happened to be an hour away.
